CASA/CASA in Action

About the organization:

CASA’s mission is to create a more just society by building power and improving the quality of life in working-class, Black, Latino/a/e, Afro-descendent, Indigenous, and Immigrant communities. Our vision is a future where we stand in our own power, our families live free from discrimination and fear, and our diverse communities thrive as we work with our partners to achieve full human rights for all.

About the position

The Director of Development for CASA leads the development department to ensure the CASA family of organizations has the resources it needs to meet our operating costs, expand our strategic initiatives, move forward on our capital projects, and execute winning campaigns. In coordination with the CFO, this position designs, oversees, and executes CASA’s overall development strategy in order to secure the financial resources necessary for CASA to do its work and ensure the organization’s financial sustainability.

To meet these ends, this position is responsible for leading the institutional, political, and individual giving teams as they engage in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of key funding partners including those at Foundations, Individuals, Corporations, Government, Unions, and other funding organizations. Additionally, this position oversees the people, processes, and systems necessary to do the work of securing, processing, and documenting grants and other funding agreements.

The Director of Development is primarily a leadership, coaching, and management role, but will also carry a small but critical portfolio of direct fundraising work for the most strategically important funders, primarily as relationship manager.

As a department director, the Director of Development is a member of CASA’s Executive Team, which consists of all Directors and Chiefs in the organization and serves as the central staff decision-making body for the organization. In addition to external and funder relationship building, the Director of Development will develop and maintain strong relationships with other members of the staff, most notably (but not exclusively) with other Directors.
