About the organization: Founded in 1986, the Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP) is a Philadelphia non-profit committed to social and economic equity for low-income women and families. Philadelphia’s first and only women-led community development corporation, WCRP has grown to become a nationally-recognized, innovative developer. The organization has built more than 350 affordable rental homes, and established the Community Justice Land Trust to protect the long-term affordability of homes. WCRP and its coalition partners have won $100 million for affordable housing, and have passed critical legislation, including our recent Land Justice Legislation, which prioritizes community control of vacant city-owned land.   • Summary: The Women’s Community Revitalization Project (WCRP), a Philadelphia-based nonprofit, is seeking an experienced, talented and motivated Organizing Director with at least 5 years of organizing experience.

    Location: Philadelphia Metro Area

    Travel: Travel outside of Philadelphia will be low, the position requires work in the field within the city

    Salary: $90,000 to $140,000, depending on experience

    Supervised by: Executive Director

    Supervises: Neighborhood Organizer, student interns

    About the position: We are seeking an experienced Organizing Director who is passionate about fighting gentrification, and is experienced in managing strong coalitions. WCRP is fighting to keep long-term residents from being forced from their homes and neighborhoods–join our team to support community members as they advocate for changes that will impact their lives!

    Job responsibilities:

    —Lead organizing and strategic relationship building with individuals, institutions, public officials, and other decision-makers with the goal of heightening the power, visibility and impact of WCRP in the community and city.

    —Convene and staff city-wide and local coalitions. Recruit new organizations, plan and lead meetings, facilitate strategic decision making, and work with leaders to plan and implement tactics, including direct action, rallies, lobby days and other engagement with media.

    —Supervise a full-time Neighborhood Organizer and student interns. Mentor team members on organizing fundamentals, including effective home visits, identifying and developing leaders, and planning and running meetings, running trainings and actions. 

    —Design and facilitate political education trainings for constituents and coalition partners focused on leadership development and analysis of relevant campaigns and issue areas.

    —Develop proposals for funding in conjunction with WCRP’s executive director and fundraising staff. Manage awarded grants, including supervising consultants and subcontractors, writing progress reports and managing budgets.

    Qualifications:

    —At least 5 years experience in community, union or electoral organizing, with expertise including:

    Campaign development and fundamentals of community organizing (how to choose an issue, developing

    strategy, selecting tactics, etc.)

    Building and supporting coalitions

    Developing and leading participatory meetings and trainings

    Supervision of staff and/or volunteers

    —Familiarity with issues which impact low-income women and children, especially housing

    —Effective time management, including prioritizing and managing tasks

    —Effective staff management that nurtures leadership while providing structure and accountability to work plans and goals

    —A strong commitment to social, racial and economic justice, accompanied by the desire to win resources to improve the lives of low-income women and families, and a belief in supporting people to achieve change on issues that affect their lives

    —A valid US drivers license is required

    —Access to a car is preferred

WCRP does not sponsor work visas; all of the above jobs require authorization to work in the United States.

The work schedule can at times be greater than 40 hours per week and includes evening and weekend meetings and events, as necessary. It is not a strictly 9am-5pm position. While occasional work at home is possible, this is a largely in-person position.
